"April 22d, 1862,
Miss Anna Castleman,
Your kind letter to the 13th instant has been received. I am much obliged to you, and to the other dear ladies of Winchester for taking our wounded heroes to your homes. Say to those who are partaking of your hospitality that I will not only be on the alert to have them exchanged, but also to have all who were captured with them exchanged at the earliest practicable moment. Give my kindest regards to those who are with you. I hope that our God in his providence will soon permit me to return to your town of which I have so many pleasant recollections, and see it again under that government to which it has shown so much loyalty.
Very sincerely yours,
T.J. Jackson
